Flash in the Pan is a fun, eclectic work originally written for unaccompanied bass trombone but playable by any solo wind instrument. True to its title, the material in Flash in the Pan is fickle, constantly changing and morphing into unrelated themes in an overall through-composed form. These changing themes alternate between simple and compound meter, taking inspiration from funk basslines and other upbeat and syncopated styles.
