AC/DC was one of my first favorite bands. I remember chaotically listening to their ‘AC/DC Live’ album to help me fall asleep when I was a kid (I guess 8 year old me found Brian Johnson’s raspy voice soothing?). So much of the rock band’s energy and style has been subconsciously ingrained into my musical vocabulary, so I thought it would be a fun experiment to write a piece more explicitly inspired by the band’s music.
Phantom Voltage is an homage to the music of AC/DC. Written for the Moira Saxophone Duo, this composition emulates aspects of what I love about the band’s sound in my own voice. You’ll hear elements inspired by AC/DC’s classic rock riffs and grooves, the band’s catchy and bluesy melodies, and even a more songlike verse-chorus structure (complete with facemelting solos a la guitarist Angus Young).
